If a relative or friend has asked you to help them get to and from the Melbourne IVF Procedure Centre for a procedure, you may be wondering what to expect.

You will need to escort your friend or relative from the centre following their procedure and ensure yourself or another responsible adult supervises them for the next 24 hours after being discharged. 

Admission

We will advise the patient of their expected discharge time when they are admitted on the day of surgery.

If you would like to wait for them during their procedure, we have a comfortable waiting room area, or you can take a short walk to:

  • Brew and Bento Cafe on Ground Floor, 36 Wellington Street, Collingwood
  • The Commons Cafe at 54 Wellington Street, Collingwood
  • Fitzroy Gardens
  • Smith Street for boutique shops and cafés

Our team will call you after the operation to confirm the anticipated discharge time.

Discharge and recovery

Written and verbal discharge instructions will be given to both you and the patient. The patient will need to rest at home for the remainder of the day. It is essential that they do not drive a motor vehicle or motor bike until the day after their admission. If you have any concerns about their recovery after the procedure, please call their doctor immediately.
