Melbourne IVF welcomes the Health Minister Jenny Mikakos comments today advising that the Victorian Government will improve access to assisted reproductive treatment changing the current legislation enabling same-sex female couples to be recognized as one family using donated sperm and eggs or embryo. The government has also advised they will undertake further consultation on removing the discriminatory requirement that Victorians seeking IVF must undergo police checks. Melbourne IVF has always cared for everyone within the community needing fertility treatment.

Today’s announcement is a very positive step for patients and reflects our own submission to the ‘Review of Assisted Reproductive Technology’ that called for these changes imposed by previous administrations as they are discriminatory.
