Sperm Donation | Melbourne IVF

Becoming a sperm donor is one of the most generous things a man can do, as it allows some people their only chance to have a baby. We currently have a shortage of sperm donors in Australia, so we thank you for considering helping others achieve their dream of a family.

Reasons to become a Sperm Donor

  • If you have children and want to help others experience that joy
  • If you're not ready to have a family of your own, but want to help others
  • If you know someone who is trying to conceive and want to donate to them directly

Can I be a Sperm Donor?

If you are a healthy man aged between 25 – 45 and an Australian Resident, our experienced team would be happy to talk you through the process in more detail.

Can I be a completely anonymous donor?

The identity of the de-identified donors is not known to the recipient but under current Victorian legislation, the donor must give explicit consent to providing identifying information to The Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. When the child is aged 18 they will be able to access this information, or in some circumstances under 18, if the parent(s) consent to this or a counsellor who has provided counselling to the donor conceived child advises the registrar in writing that the child is sufficiently mature to understand the consequences of disclosure.

Can I be paid to be a sperm donor?

In Australia it is illegal to take payment for any human tissue, including sperm. You can be reimbursed for any reasonable expenses you incur through the process of donating sperm, including things such as parking, travel and medical expenses. This is either paid by the recipient if they are known to you, or by Melbourne IVF.
