New to this Forum?

Welcome to the Melbourne IVF FertilityFORUM, an exclusive support tool for patients undergoing fertility treatment with us. The forum provides an invaluable source of extra support and understanding for Melbourne IVF patients by enabling you to connect with others in similar situations at any time of day.

Whether you are keen to engage in the open discussions about fertility issues and treatment experiences, or simply observe and read about the experiences of others who are in a similar situation, you have complete control over how you participate.

When you are ready to share your joys, hopes and fears you can turn to others in the forum at any time – day or night. If you find it valuable, we encourage you to support others in return.

An administrator from Melbourne IVF monitors the forum to ensure that all members participate according to the rules of the forum and that it remains a supportive and harmonious place.

How are discussions arranged on the forum?

The Forum is currently divided into 13 different categories. These range from ‘Undergoing Treatment for the First Time’ to ‘Pregnancy’ to ‘The Sharing Room’. You can see the 13 categories and their descriptions on the home page of the forum.

Within each of these categories, you will see ‘Topics’ which are discussion threads. The Topic title will give you an idea of what the discussion is about. Click on the topic title to see the full discussion within. The original post is always repeated at the top of the topic so you know what the discussion is about, with the most recent posts underneath.

You may come across some common acronyms that are used by people undergoing fertility treatment. If any are unclear, refer to our Forum Acronyms page to get an understanding of what they mean.

How do I post on the forum?

To add your own comment or reply to a Topic you need to go to the “Comment” box at the bottom of the page you wish to contribute to. Type what you would like to say and then click ‘Preview’ or ‘Save’. If you would like to receive email alerts every time someone else replies to this topic, leave the checkbox in “Notify me when new comments are posted”.

What’s the difference between Active, New & Updated, and Unanswered Topics?

In addition to the 13 key categories on the home page of the forum, you may notice three menu items on the left for Active, New & Updated, and Unanswered Topics. These sections contain different groupings of topics that you may be interested in:

  • Active – these are the topics which are most popular at the moment, with the most frequent and recent posts.
  • New & Updated – these are the topics which have been added or commented on since the last time you logged in.
  • Unanswered – these are the topics where a person has posted a question that remains unanswered.  Perhaps you can go in and provide an answer?

You may also notice that each time you go into the forum it will highlight posts that are new since you last logged in. This will be via a star on the folder in which the topic is located, and the word ‘New’ in the ‘Topics’ column.

What other content is available on the forum?

There are a number of guides and support materials that have been recommended by our Fertility Specialists, Nurse and Counselling team, available in the forum.

You can access these under the ‘Patient Support’ section on the left hand menu. We also have a link to our ‘Patient Survey’. We encourage every Melbourne IVF patient to complete this survey to help us improve the quality of service and treatment that we offer to you.
