The services provided by Melbourne IVF cover a wide range of treatment and our fee structure reflects the complexity of this. It is therefore important that patients make contact with our patient accounts department prior to the beginning of every treatment cycle.

On the day of a patient’s first nurse and/or counsellor interview, they will also be asked to speak to a member of the patient accounts team. This is important because it will assist patients in understanding the fees involved in their treatment and provide an opportunity to discuss out of pocket costs. Along with discussing the fees, we will also explain Medicare filing, Medicare Safety Net and additional expenses.

At the commencement of the first and subsequent cycles, a pre-payment invoice will be issued; this is payable within 7 days. This payment may be made in person at our accounts offices at 10/320 Victoria Parade East Melbourne or at Reproductive Services at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Grattan Street Carlton. Payment may also be made over the telephone by credit card or mailed by credit card remittance, personal cheque, cashier’s cheque or Australian Money Order.

Private health insurance funds may cover some or all of the hospital bed fee. Patients will be required to produce their fund membership details upon admission to the hospital where they will have their procedure. We advise patients to contact their private health fund to ascertain the amount they are required to pay. A Medicare rebate will apply to anaesthetists’ charges, as may private health funds.

It is a patient’s responsibility to ensure that they have a current referral to cover their treatment cycle, beginning from the cycle commencement date. We recommend that this is obtained from a general practitioner, as a specialist can only refer for a maximum of three months.

If the referral is not current, Medicare will reduce a patient’s rebate. A reduced rebate will, in turn, directly reduce the worth of a patient’s Medicare Safety Net claim because this claim is based on the difference between what has been paid by the patient, and what Medicare has paid.

The staff in our patient accounts department are available to assist patients with any concerns that may arise during your time at MIVF. They also welcome enquiries from potential patients.
They can be contacted on 9473 4421.
