About Fertility Treatment

Treatments

Infertility is defined as a couple not conceiving after 12 months of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. After about six months of trying to conceive most couples start to look for answers or consider consulting a doctor.

When facing infertility, dwelling on causes often leads to blame and guilt, taking away some of the strength a couple needs to face their situation together. Although it is important to know the factors impeding their goal of conceiving, it is also important for them to take positive action together, by exploring options and forms of treatment that are available.

For some couples, all that is needed is advice or a simple approach such as Ovulation Induction or IUI.  For others high-level technology, such as In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), may be needed.

If you have been trying to conceive for 12 months or more (6 months if you are 35 years and over), we encourage you to seek advice from a fertility specialist.

Getting Started:

The first step in seeking advice from a Melbourne IVF Fertility Specialist is to make an appointment at your preferred clinic location.  You will need to bring a referral to your first appointment either from your GP (valid for 12 months) or gynaecologist (valid for 3 months), with both you and your partner’s name in order to be eligible for the Medicare rebates.
