Genetic Counselling

Genetic Counselling in an infertility clinic

Some people come to an IVF clinic not because they have problems with fertility but because they have genetic concerns. They, their children or relatives may have a genetic condition or diagnosis which may make having healthy children more difficult. In some cases reassurance is possible and for others it is helpful to look at possible treatment options and their implications. This could include IVF/PGD, donor treatments, or further testing.

A clinical geneticist is a doctor with specialist genetics training. A genetic counsellor has genetic and counselling training and works with the clinical geneticist and the scientific team.
