Welcome to Melbourne IVF

Melbourne IVF's Information service was introduced in 1996 for couples undergoing infertility treatment and other people with an interest in in-vitro fertilisation.

The aim of the service is to assist couples with their information needs by answering questions and directing them to information sources.

The service covers the areas of infertility, assisted reproductive technology, and associated matters such as emotional and ethical issues.

Inside this web site you will find information ranging from our treatment program and costs to resources on IVF as well as our bulletin board and a diary of upcoming events.

Clinic Profile

Melbourne IVF is located in East Melbourne close to the city, with parking available on site and public transport stopping directly outside the premises. Situated within the Freemason's Medical Centre, our premises are purpose built within an IVF operating theatre, laboratory and embryo transfer room all adjacent to our main reception and other staff offices.

Our Infertility Specialists' consulting rooms are situated within the same building. Many of our Infertility Specialists have other consulting rooms in Melbourne suburbs and country areas, for the convenience of patients in those areas.

(For further information, click on to individual doctor's profiles.)

We have designed our program at Melbourne IVF around the minimum medical intervention necessary to offer a safe and effective service, aiming also to reduce disruption to our patients' lives during a stressful time. Our Infertility Specialists oversee and direct their own patient's medical treatment, and care for their own patients during procedures.

To ensure continuity of care during treatment several nurses work with each consultant. A nurse's morning clinic, which operates seven days a week, offers the opportunity for patients to have injections, blood tests and scans attended to before office hours. The nurses will also teach patients or their partners how to give their own daily injections, for those couples who wish to have that part of their treatment at home. Similar facilities for IVF and other reproductive treatment by MIVF staff exist at the Royal Women's Hospital, and patients will be offered treatment at the appropriate site for their needs and circumstances. Nurses are available at Melbourne IVF and Reproductive Services seven days a week to answer queries, discuss problems or to commence a treatment cycle.

Melbourne IVF at Reproductive Services

Reproductive Services is located on the 2nd floor, at the Royal Women's Hospital (cnr Grattan Street and Flemington Rd, Parkville).

Infertility Specialists and Registrars consult on Monday to Friday at various times. Nurses are available seven days a week to answer queries, discuss problems, and commence a cycle.

A nurse's morning clinic, which operates 7.30am to 9.00am seven days a week, offers the opportunity for patients to have injections, blood tests and scans attended to before office hours. The nurses also conduct private lessons on injection techniques during the initial interview, or upon request, to enable you to administer your drugs in the comfort of your own home.

As we are aware of the emotional upheavals associated with infertility and the stress of undergoing treatment, we emphasise that our counsellors are available to you before, during and after treatment, whether to listen or to offer advice on coping strategies. The counsellors are considered an important part of our service and if an appointment can not be made immediately, they will contact you to make other arrangements.

Suburban clinics operate at; Ringwood, Sunshine, Epping, and Dandenong. These clinics are staffed by MIVF nurses and offer nursing, counselling and doctor appointments including facilities for scans, blood tests and semen collection.

An Information Folder, Patients Notes and IVF Video are available to provide further information about MIVF and our treatment program.
