Are you having difficulty conceiving? Would you like to see one of our infertility specialists, but are unsure what to do?
If you are keen to see one of our infertility specialists as promptly as possible, please telephone our reception staff on + 61 3 9473 4444 to make an appointment. MIVF will ensure that you have an appointment to see one of our specialists within 14 days.
If you feel that you have a fertility problem, you would be very welcome to make an appointment to see any one of our infertility specialists at Melbourne IVF. It is very important to understand that making a decision to visit one of our doctors does not, in any way, necessarily commit you to IVF treatment, or indeed to any form of infertility treatment. Our doctors are highly trained in all forms of infertility treatment and investigation, of which IVF is only one potential treatment solution. Some couples might be reluctant to see one of our specialists because they do not feel that they are yet ready for IVF and believe that by doing so they will somehow automatically commit themselves to this line of treatment. This is not so.
Choosing a doctor may be a difficult task for you. Most commonly, a couple will rely on the advice of their general practitioner, or perhaps a friend or another member of the family, when trying to decide which doctor to see. Very commonly, however, couples have no fixed idea about which doctor they would like to see. They simply wish to be seen as quickly as possible by an infertility specialist so that appropriate investigation and treatment can be established. To assist these couples, MIVF has established a central referral system.
It is requested that you bring a referral from your general practitioner when you have a consultation with one of our doctors. Without a current referral you will not be able to claim as much of the cost of your consultation or treatment back from Medicare.

Please also be aware that Melbourne IVF conducts four suburban clinics, each of which are usally staffed by at least one of our Melbourne IVF specialists. You would be welcome to come and see our infertility specialists at these centres.

WOULD A SUBURBAN CLINIC BE MORE CONVENIENT?
As the city of Melbourne continues to grow and expand, Melbourne IVF and the Royal Women’s Hospital Reproductive Services Clinic, are well aware of the difficulties which many patients encounter in order to reach our services. These difficulties will only become greater in the future as the costs of transport, fuel, and parking continue to rise.
Melbourne IVF has established four suburban clinics around the city of Melbourne in attempt to bring infertility services closer to where you may live or work and limit the need for unnecessary travel into the inner city.
The Melbourne IVF Suburban Clinics are by no means exclusively for women wishing to seek IVF treatment. The clinics, through their affiliation with the Royal Women’s Hospital Reproductive Services Clinic, are able to provide an extensive service to all couples seeking counselling, investigation, and treatment of all forms of male and female infertility, irrespective of whether IVF therapy may eventually be recommended or not. It is certainly true, of course, that these clinics are able to provide a comprehensive service to women who are seeking IVF therapy.
Members of our highly trained nursing staff are in attendance at all of our clinics, as are our infertility counsellors. Consultant gynaecologists from Melbourne IVF attend most of the clinics on a regular basis and are available to see patients.
If you feel that a suburban clinic might be a better option, you would be welcome to make an appointment to come and see us. Unless you are already under the care of one of our doctors, you will first need to see one of our consultant infertility specialists for an initial visit. We would ask that you bring a referral from your general practitioner.
If you would like to be seen as a private patient then you are welcome to phone the clinic of your choice. Our nurses will let you know which doctors attend the clinic, and on which days, and advise you how to make appropriate arrangements. If you are already a patient of the Royal Women’s Hospital Reproductive Services Clinic, or you are a new patient but would like to be seen in that capacity, we would ask you to telephone the Royal Women’s Hospital (8345 3227) and they will make appropriate arrangements for you.
